From Rod Bennett : First appearance of the patented bare-breasted Disney nymphs -- an amusing tradition which will continue in such films as "Fantasia" and "Peter Pan." The implication of rape by pirates has already been excised from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland -- can this innocent little short be long for this world?
From Jerry Edwards : Enjoyable, well-done short. I had only a black and white copy for years off the Mickey Mouse Club before I caught a color Disney Channel showing. Never saw it again on the Disney Channel for years afterwards. Comparing the black and white with the color really shows how much color adds to this short. Especially enjoy how well color is used in this short - just about every color imaginable is used on the variety of sea life. The nippleless breasts was always weird to me. And it's a bit odd when the mermaid's breasts appear and disappear during the scene of the pirates trying to capture the mermaid.
From Kyle Peters : It starts off with everybody happy in the sea. But then the pirates come and wreck everything. What mostly amazes me is that Neptune is soooooooo big.
From Harley Gebhart : Did you know that the design of this King Neptune is actually a Disney archetype? Well, it is! They used the same design for Santa in Santa's Workshop and Father Noah in Father Noah's Ark.
