From Juan F. Lara : This was an unusual short. In fact it was disorienting the first time I saw it. Daisy and Donald didn't know each other, and Daisy had a strange request for Pete and Donald. :-) But there was a reason why the Ducks had to not know each other. That was to make the ending work, and I thought that the ending was an inspired plot twist. Also one of MMW's cutest scenes featuring Donald and Daisy. :-) I found that this short got a lot funnier the second time I saw it, as I was ready for Daisy's weird request and I looked forward to the ending. Most of the short was a long list of musical instruments Pete and Donald played for Daisy. The makers picked a very bizarre selection of instruments, complete with costume changes for the salesmen. DYN: The background artwork was stylized, looking very similar to '50's shorts like Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom. But the backgrounds weren't important to the main story.
From Lee Suggs : This was a fun little short with little substance, but plenty of sight gags and action. A very animated loudspeaker allows Pete and Donald's boss to inform them that the next music store employee, who makes a sale, will keep his job. Of course the other employee will be fired. This cues Daisy entry and Pete and Donald's attempts to sell her a instrument to make "romantic music". Daisy doesn't know Donald here, and she has an interesting perception of what's romantic. So Pete and Donald make an enormous effort to sell her an instrument. This involves changing costume as well as changing instruments. (So we get to see Zoot Suit Donald, Beatnik Pete, Cowboy Donald, to name just a few of their musical incarnations.) Finally Pete beats Donald by making HIM an instrument, and then selling him to Daisy. However, in the end Donald gets the girl, and Pete has to pay to rebuild the music store destroyed during his and Donald's competition. This was a fun short, even if its not really memorable in any way.
From Jimmy Kielbasa : I liked the scene when Pete dressed up like a monkey, but I liked his feet.
