I had been wanting to see Daisy actually get to perform. I'm sure Tress MacNeille has a lovely singing voice to go with Daisy's voice. The song Mickey and Daisy sang was cute, though not outstanding. (And Daisy speaks her lines more often than sings them.) Then the plot took a sharp turn and showed Minnie suddenly upset over the duet. (That's hinted at in Act 1 very slightly.) I didn't see what the big deal was, or why Daisy took that drastic step to back out of the duet. Couldn't they just stage a Mickey-Minnie duet next week? The second rendition of the song sounded boring, and Minnie's awkwardness wasn't funny.
I liked the brief dialogue Daisy and Ariel had in Act 1. OTOH, Gaston's running gag wasn't even funny the first time (Very bad voice delivery here.)
Next we have the best part of the show- a duet with Mickey and Daisy. ("Me is the Mouse, and I am the Duck") This has to be the most creative and the best performed of the HOM acts. It's featured on the new HOM CD so be sure to give it a listen.
We end up with Minnie taking Daisy's place for the duet with Mickey. (Daisy pretends to have a broken leg, so Minnie can be on stage with Mickey.) This is cute, but no where near as good as the Mickey/Daisy duet. I think HOM's creators are trying to soften the harsh image they've given Daisy in the "MouseWorks" cartoons. One more note, Gaston popped up throughout the episode spouting off ridiculous statements. This gave several HOM characters a chance to put him down in very understated and amusing ways. While this wasn't my favorite HOM episode, it was great to see new stuff, and that duet was classic.
