ACTION ANALYSIS
ORPHANS' PICNIC
January 30

[...] WARD: Those plates seemed small.I should like to have
seen a big armful of big plates.

There was confusion in the scene and the animator didn't get all
that could have been gotten out of that dance. It was more the
way the action was planned and displayed... It was rushed - it
could have been slowed up and clarified to get idea over clearly.
In the castanet business, it was a straight case of confusion with
the background, and as Ward brought out, the implements were too
small.

BERNIE: I think all the backgrounds weak, taking away from
     the action.

WARD: It looked like too much fall weather - not enough
     contrast.

Has anything in the picture up to this point given the feeling
of a picnic?

SHULL: The tablecloth on the ground and the title.

ALGAR: I didn't think the dance put over the spirit of the
     picnic.

ARCHIE: There should have been a tieup of the first song,
"It's always fair weather....." with Duck's song when he
     dances.

SHULL: Duck doing the Carioca should have been very funny.

.... Duck looked thin in this scene.

Duck's neck is too thin - his body is far above the ground -
his hands could be bigger in places.

GRIFFIN: Wasn't time element confusing - elapsed time was
not sufficient for Duck to get to the dishes.

About 5% of the class didn't feel picnic feeling was gotten
over sufficiently up to this point in the picture.

ALGAR: Couldn't understand any of Duck's dialogue, except
     "scram."

Scene 12.

Duck sees kid - yells, "Hey".

Did action get over - is Duck's personality being built - is
there transition from character of Duck in previous scene to his
anger in this one - do you feel the Duck should get very mad
whenever he gets mad at all? Would there have been possibility
of building up madness of the Duck which would have enhanced the
feeling of the whole picture?

     General yes. [...]
