Comments

The dance sequences in the "Old Mac" section of the 1956 short "Jack and Old Mac" are reused animation from "All the Cats Join In." Some side by side examples can be seen here : Reused Animation.

From David Ungar : Fantastic! Very whimsical. Captures the spirit of the music.

From Chrissy Atkinson : Loved watching this on Disney's Valentine. The characters are all so cool and smooth. Just watching the dancin made me wanna get up and dance!

From Gijs Grob : A Benny Goodman tune accompanies an animation short about youth going out, driving and dancing (teenagers are a rare subject in animation cartoons). With perfect, fast timing, and great jokes around a scribbling pencil drawing the characters, backgrounds etc. The short contains a surprising sequence of a naked girl jumping out of a shower into her clothes.

From Tiffany : I love it! Plus it's one of my favorite songs to Lindy to.

From Calguy : Excellent swing dance video caught in cartoon animation. Great moves available to learn that are still used today!

From rmanetti : Fantastic

Superb

If you can listen / watch this and not jump up to dance - see a doctor.

From Paula 442 : I always liked this short, but after reading Freddie Moore's biography and his manner of death, I like it even moore. I guess I relate to Freddie in a way, and I loved all the Mickeys that he worked on (except I felt the eyes with pupils kinda cut down on Mickey's unique personality. I don't know what to think about the ears in perspective.) Anyway, this is such a beautiful, lively cartoon--you can see Disney copied the sprightly movement for the "Rhapsody in Blue" sequence in FANTASIA 2000. It's one of the few cartoons representing teens from any period that you could watch and enjoy without embarrassment. Someone should write a book about Freddie before all his contacts are dead.

From Mesh : I have to say that this short is a cult classic amongst swing dancers and lindy hoppers everywhere; at any place this piece is shown - be it on the Disney channel, an old video tape, whatever - every dancer in the room stops what their doing to watch with wild, entranced eyes. You can almost pin down exactly each dance and move that the characters are performing, and the fluidity, energy and historical content of the short still ring true today. As a dancer I can only hope to age half as well as this short has.

From Grace : Brilliant and Fantastic cartoon! Benny Goodman and his Orchestra is perfect for this short, and Fred Moore did an excellent job on the animation. I highly recommend it!
