From Ryan : For years, this cartoon has been banned from the Disney Channel. Therefore, I was unable to see it. However, thanks to the recent "Complete Goofy" DVD, I finally got to see this classic short. It shows how tobacco had been brought to the Old World by Columbus, who had obtained it from the Native Americans. I find this to be a very fun cartoon to watch. It shows some ignorant people who have probably never watched a good majority of Disney cartoons that Disney cartoons can be politically incorrect and not "cute."

From Baruch Weiss : Goofy gives up the dreadful habit of smoking. However, he discovers one temptation too many (the urge was very strong. He didn't give a little whistle and let his conscience be his guide!) and spends the rest of the cartoon searching for a cigar and finally garners one from an elderly gentlemen, but it was actually an exploding cigar. I enjoyed this cartoon and I liked the scene where one of the Goofs throws down a cigar from a tall building and as Goofy is waiting to procure it, the cig disintegrates. The cartoon concludes with the offscreen narrator (heard in various Goofy cartoons and a few other Disney cartoons without Goofy like "The Legend of Coyote Rock" "Donald's Diary and "Springtime for Pluto") saying "Give the smoker enough rope, and he'll hang on to his habit," but In the TV special "A Salute to Father" the ending of this short was tied in with the rest of the episode. Goofy announces that he quits smoking for good. Which is good because fifteen years after this cartoon Walt Disney died of lung cancer because he was a heavy smoker.

From Alexander Elliott-Welch : I think "No Smoking" is the only Walt Disney cartoon without the MPAA seal in the title card.
