From Patrick Malone : Finally, Minnie begins
to show some development (get your minds out of the gutter, I didn't mean
it like that!) in her personality. And it's pretty much what we would expect
from her. Always helpful, a bit flustered when things begin to go wrong,
but a fairly quick thinker on her feet. And funny! Maybe I'm a little too
easily amused these days, but this one had me almost on the floor a couple
of times. ("Green paint, Blue paint, Pluto colored paint." "It's Paint brand
shampoo!") Best of all was the series of gags as a painted Pluto is walked
(dragged) down the street, running into obstacles along the way (klunk, spin,
klunk, spin.) The only think I found wrong was that during the dog show the
tail gag doesn't seem to deliver the idea that Pluto is really trying to
break out of his cocoon at all. But still, a wonderful short.
P. S. Is this short finally an answer to Pluto's rejection in "Society Dog
Show?"
-
From J. D. Weil : A novelty! Minnie gets
to star in a full-length short and guess what? It's good! In this one, Minnie
accidently dyes Pluto purple while giving him a bath in preparation for a
dog show. Lots of good action here, but the ending a bit contrived. Still,
lotsa fun.

From Juan F. Lara : Eh, I found this short
unpleasant to watch. Now this short DID feature a Minnie that was the same
as in "Maestro Minnie". We saw Minnie get angry in this short. Also, she
tended to be very pushy. She butted in and just took Pluto away to bathe
him, and she walked all over Mickey when she went to get the paint. She treated
those two the way she's treated her orchestra. But the first time I saw this
short Minnie came off as a shrill busybody to me. I softened to her after
several other viewings, but she still comes off as unsympathetic to me.
The short's second half depended too much on idiot plot syndrome. All the
time they dragged Pluto down the street I wondered how come Mickey didn't
catch on. So the jokes of Pluto getting knocked around seemed stupid instead
of funny. Likewise Minnie's reply about the paint.: "It's 'Paint'-brand shampoo."
The ending was another contrived happy ending that depended on the judges
being really gullible. And I was still wondering why Minnie had a bottle
of purple hair dye to begin with.
DYN: The makers had a strange idea in having Pluto attack Minnie. But then
Pluto stops being angry at Minnie in an instant.
-
From David Gonterman : Note that this was
originally presented after 'Minnie Takes Care of Pluto;' you might
find a reason why Mickey dropped Pluto off at Minnie's doorstep on her cleaning
day. This is the first main feature where Minnie really gets to shine, and
she shows a very developed personality. ("Pluto is not purple!", "It's
Paint-brand shampoo!", "It's only a beauty contest right, he's not going
to have to do all those tricks?") Only one problem: Is there something about
Minnie that can switch off some parts of Mickey's brain? Oh, another thing
- Damage to Minnie: Gets chased around by a purple Pluto, but we don't see
it.
-
From Lee Suggs : I enjoyed this short throughly.
I thought the premise was excellent, and it was played out very well. Seeing
Minnie in action (and in her Disneyland House!) is just so refreshing. She
had so little to do in the classic shorts. I enjoyed the gags in this short
(particulary the rearranging of Minnie's house, and the "Pluto Colored Paint")
and the ending was very satisfying. All and all one of the best shorts in
the series.

From Thomas Mulligan : I love it, I love
it, I love it! "Disney Double Dyn-o-mite!"
I have seen "Purple Pluto" and would like to
